Hi everyone!

Not too long ago, I posted about how I was loving the FlyLady Cleaning System, not much has changed, I still really love the structure that it gives me and I have been using religiously since moving. In this post, I wanted to give you a deeper look into my zone cleaning. The FlyLady system breaks down monthly tasks into simple zones, one for each week of the month. This week I want to walk you through zone one.

I have modified my zone from what the FlyLady posted to something that is a little bit more fitting for me. During the week that I hit zone one, I cover the following areas: the entrance into our house, the front porch, the dining room, and the laundry room. I broke it down this way because each of these spaces has a door that leads outside. Zone one focuses on the indoor/outdoor aspects of your home, most of the time these areas are the things that someone first sees when they come into your home. With that in mind, I have come up with the following tasks that I get done during the week I cover zone one:

  • Clear entrance table
  • Clean glass on french doors
  • Clean glass on front door
  • Clean glass on side door
  • Disinfect door handles
  • Clear cobwebs outside front door
  • Clear cobwebs outside patio door
  • Clear cobwebs outside side door
  • Shake out welcome mats
  • Sweep patio
  • Sweep front porch
  • Sweep front walkway
  • Clear off dining room table and reset
  • Clear off desks of clutter
  • Cobwebs out of vaulted ceiling
  • Windex washer dryer
  • Clean washer
  • Organize leashes/dog station

What I love about these zone tasks is that they don’t take an incredibly long time and they’re fairly simple. These are things that need to get done on a monthly basis, but we may not always have time to do them or we may not remember to do them. What is really hard is when these tasks pile up and that’s when we get overwhelmed with how big of a mess our house has become. Thankfully, the FlyLady system really makes you sit down and think about the things that need to be done and she spaces it out so well that you don’t get overwhelmed with tasks that need to be done. Tune in next week to check out our tasks for zone two!
