Hi everyone!

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe that we are so close to our little one coming! Now that we are getting so close, I finally have been able to get our hospital bag together. I have packed two separate bags, one duffel bag with all of our clothes, hygiene items, and baby album and my diaper bag that has things that we will need to be more accessible, like our chargers, laptop, and my camera.

Hospital bags

We are taking two bags to the hospital with us, both of which I discovered from the lovely Jen from Pretty Neat Living. The first of the two is the Vera Bradley for Disney Plums Up Mickey Duffel Bag. I fell in love with Jen’s bag from her What’s in my Hospital Bag Video, but they don’t sell the one that she had on the Disney website anymore! Which is fine, because I absolutely fell in love with the bag that I got, the colors are beautiful and I love the old school Mickey and Minnie’s all over the bag! The other bag that we are bringing is the Skip Hop Forma Diaper Backpack, which I found while making my registry at Babies “R” Us. I liked it a lot, but I didn’t know if I was sold on the backpack style diaper bag until, again, I saw one of Jen’s videos and fell in love with yet another one of her bags! In addition to the two bags, I have stolen (another) idea from Jen by using the Eagle Creek Pack it Cubes in my hospital bag. When I watched her hospital bag video, I thought that using these cubes was such a genius idea, it allows you to take your items out of your bag without putting them on the dirty hospital floor, and it allows you more organization, which you all should know, I am a sucker for! We are using two full cubes, one for my clothes and one for Freddie’s, and one half cube for all of baby’s newborn clothes.

Now down to what we packed! For myself, I packed two of the Gilligan & O’Malley Short Sleeved Button up Pajama Sets. I picked these pajamas for a couple of different reasons, first one being they looked super comfortable! The pajamas are made of a light jersey-like material that is super soft. I wanted something to change into that would be super comfortable and make me feel a little more at home. The second reason I decided on these pj’s is because they’re button up, which I have heard is really really great for nursing. I wanted something that would cover me up adequately, but something that was also easy access for baby. In addition to the pajamas, I also packed the Gilligan & O’Malley Knit Wrap Robe, which seems to be made out of the same lightweight material making it look just as comfy to wear. I am typically a very cold-natured person, pre-pregnancy I always had a blanket wrapped around me, even in the summer. However, pregnancy hormones change a lot and now I am hot all the time. I didn’t know what I would feel like after birth, so I wanted to make sure all my bases were covered, I thought a lightweight robe fit the bill perfectly! In addition, I packed two Gilligan & O’Malley Seamless Nursing Bras, I picked these bras because they don’t have hard cups. I wanted something that could grow with me, as I don’t know how busty I will be after giving birth. I also chose these because I really didn’t want to be wearing an uncomfortable bra after giving birth, so I decided on something that I find comfortable, a more sports bra-esque bra. I packed a few other necessities, a few pairs of socks, Old Navy flip-flops in case I decided to shower, and my Dearfoams Women’s Clog Slippers to wear around the hospital. Last but not least, I packed my favorite Old Navy Jersey Maxi Dress to wear home, I wanted something comfortable (are you sensing a theme here?) to wear home that wouldn’t be pulling on any sore spots. I figured a dress would be perfect for that!

The rest of the stuff that I packed for myself is more hygiene-centered. I packed travel sized shampoo and conditioner in case I want to shower as well as a bar of soap. I also packed a travel sized contact solution, tissues, chapstick, a couple of hair ties, bobby pins, toothbrush, toothpaste, and mascara and eyeliner. I decided to pack my bare minimum of makeup because our hospital takes pictures of every baby born and I wanted to look slightly presentable for these photos, as I hope to buy them and keep them forever. I really didn’t want to look like I got hit by a semi-truck in those precious photos. The last little bit of stuff I packed centered around breast feeding. My hope is to breast feed, but I am not dead-set on it because I don’t want to be disappointed if my supply is too low or if it is too painful. The items that I packed are the Earth Mama Angel Baby Natural Nipple Balm, the Lasinoh Disposable Nursing Pads, and the Lasinoh Soothies Gel Pads. I know my hospital provides the Lasinoh Nursing Pads, but I brought a pair just in case. I was unsure if they would provide the Lasinoh Soothies, so I decided to bring some of my own! I also know they also provide some kind of nipple cream, but I have heard really, really great things about the Earth Mama Angel Baby brand, so I opted to bring my own.

Hospital bag Freddie

For Freddie, we packed just your typical items, some t-shirts, sweat pants, socks, jeans, and flip flops. He will also probably bring his Sperry Top-Sider Boat Shoes. We have also packed some hygiene items for him like soap, his toothbrush and toothpaste, and his glasses case.

As far as I know, I will be having a vaginal birth and I want to make sure that Freddie and I both have something to do while I am laboring. I will pack a book for myself, likely something from the Harry Potter series, as I’m currently reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I plan on also bringing my laptop for Freddie and a 10′ Lightining Cable to charge our phones. Last but not least, I will definitely be bringing my Canon T5 DSLR to capture some brand-new baby photos of our little guy!

Then we have some miscellaneous items that we are bringing. One of those items is my Sophia the Giraffe Baby Album, I have been loving their line of pregnancy and baby books, which I have talked about previously in my pregnancy books post. In addition, I will be bringing my Boppy Nursing Pillow and cover. Lastly, I am bringing the Bubba Envy Mug, I decided to bring my own cup because I have been super sensitive to tasting plastic and I wanted something that wouldn’t leave a nasty taste in my mouth when I was at the hospital, needing to drink a lot of water.

Hospital bag Jacob

Last but not least, the star of the show’s items! For our little guy, we opted to bring two sizes worth of clothes, newborn and 0-3 months. We packed a “coming home” outfit in both sizes. In newborn we packed the Just One You Carter’s Two Piece Footed Sleeper Set and in 0-3 months we packed the Carter’s Fox 4-piece Footed Character Set (which is unfortunately no longer available). We packed a few more necessities in newborn size, such as the Carter’s Short Sleeved Side-Snap T-shirts, for when the umbilical stump is still attached, as well as a couple of onesies, socks, a Carter’s Cotton Zip-Up Sleep and Play, and a SwaddleMe Zip Pod. Lastly, we packed two blankets, The Carter’s Swaddle Blankets, which are a little bit heavier in case if it’s a bit chilly out and the Aden and Anais Muslin Swaddle Blankets for if it is warm outside and baby just needs a light cover. Our little guy is due at the end of September and being a resident of Virginia, it could be really chilly or unbearably hot at that time of year, so we wanted to be prepared for both! We aren’t packing any diapers, formula, or bottles because that’s something that our hospital will provide for us, thankfully!

I think that wraps up just about everything that we are bringing for ourselves and baby. I definitely would love to make a post after the baby comes, talking about the things that I actually ended up needing, and those that I didn’t touch. Keep your eyes open for that! What did you guys pack in your hospital bag? Were there things that you didn’t use that you thought you had to have? Were there things that you didn’t think you needed but ended up wanting?
