Hi everyone!

Last year around this time, I talked about the cleaning system I was using, the FlyLady cleaning system. I wanted to write an update about my cleaning system because it has very much evolved. I wouldn’t call what I am following now the FlyLady system; rather the get-done-what-you-can-while-Jacob-is-napping-system. When Jacob was first born, I was always¬†so stressed out that I couldn’t get my whole FlyLady cleaning list done. Having a newborn is hard, killing yourself over the house being clean post-c-section is completely miserable.

After being so stressed out, I decided something had to change. I either needed to change my cleaning schedule, or I needed to cut back on baby snuggles. I’m sure you can imagine that baby snuggles won. After looking through my cleaning lists, I realized just how ridiculous some of these tasks were. Being pregnant and having all the time in the world to complete said tasks, they didn’t seem so ridiculous! Now that I have a little one to take care of and two pups, cleaning the baseboards in the dining room (that rarely gets used) once a week is completely out of the question. I needed to put my foot down and realize that my house can’t be kept perfect at this point in my life… And that is one hundred percent okay!

Just like my previous cleaning system, I do have tasks that I do every day or as needed. I try to stick to my [simplified] morning routine most mornings. It typically goes like this:

  • Wake up around 7am
  • Feed Jacob
  • Get out of bed
  • Brush teeth
  • Work out
  • Wash face
  • Eat breakfast

After this, Jacob typically will go down for his first nap of the day and then I get my day-specifc cleaning tasks done:

  • Monday – Clean/declutter our bedroom and the laundry room
  • Tuesday – Clean/declutter Jacob’s room and the living room
  • Wednesday – Clean/declutter my stepson’s room and the “playroom”
  • Thursday – Clean the kitchen and grocery shop
  • Friday – “deep clean” sweeping and mopping day
  • Saturday – Bathrooms
  • Sunday – Outside chores and emptying all the garbage

In addition to my daily cleaning tasks, I also do a load of laundry every day:

  • Monday – Mine and Freddie’s clothes
  • Tuesday – Couch blankets (I keep blankets on the couch to prevent stains)
  • Wednesday – Towels
  • Thursday – Swing day – whatever needs to be done gets done or no laundry
  • Friday – Kid’s clothes
  • Saturday – Bedding
  • Sunday – Freddie’s work clothes

Beyond that, I do stuff as it needs to be done. My house isn’t always clean; in fact, some days, none of these things get done. On days like that, I shift my tasks to the next day and get them done when I can. I’ve always been a list maker and a planner, but having a child I have learned to let a little bit of that go. It’s been a struggle, but I feel so much better. I feel less stressed, I feel as though a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

I hope that you guys enjoyed this little update. Posts about organization and updates are some of my favorite posts to read, so I love to write them. I’d love to hear about your cleaning schedule if you have one. I would also love to hear about anything that you guys would like to read from me. Now that I’m easing into a better schedule this fall, I’m carving out time to finally make blogging a priority and I look forward to seeing where this takes me!

If you’re interested in what cleaning products I use, please let me know in the comments below! I’d love to make a coordinating post for you if you’re interested!

Until next time!
