Hi everyone!

A few weeks ago, I mentioned on my Instagram that poor baby J had a cold. Thankfully, with the help of Dr. Google we found some great ways to help with his congestion and slight cough. Unfortunately because most colds are viruses, there isn’t much that can help and there is absolutely nothing they can take under a year old that is FDA approved. So, the five things that helped us the most I’ve compiled for you below!

FridaBaby Nasal Aspirator – Let me just say that the bulb nasal aspirators are complete garbage. They suck. They never get anything out, my baby screams as soon as he sees it. They’re terrible. So I decided to buy the Nose Frida, begrudgingly. I’ll be honest with you, the thought of sucking snot out of my baby’s nose… Gross. However, it works and it makes Jacob feel better, so I use it. I must say though, if your baby is sick, buy the extra filters with it. Because you will go through them like wildfire! Last but not least, I love how easy this thing is to use. You don’t have to insert it into the baby’s nose, instead it just sits right inside the nostril, just enough to make a seal. Which means baby isn’t struggling to get it out of his nose!

Little Remedies Saline Drops – I got the Boogie branded saline spray but it seemed too intense for Jacob. It shoots a solid stream of saline spray into baby’s nose and I thought that was just too much, after all, he only needed a little bit. So I decided to get these drops instead and they work great! They’re super easy to use and you get a lot in the container! I would recommend disinfecting the tip after every use though!

Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifer – I had been wanting to buy a humidifier for some time and with Jacob being sick, it seemed like the perfect time! This was the only one they sold at Target so this is the one we got. I will say it works really great and we use it every night now. I love it! The humidifier worked wonders for Jacob when he was sick. It kept the air just damp enough to keep Jacob’s boogies wet, which allowed his stuffy nose to clear up quickly!

Boogie Wipes Saline Nose Wipes – Speaking of dried snot, these things work magic with dried snot. These wipes are ideal for colds and even perfect for day-to-day use. They work so well to soften up dried boogies and let you pull them out without causing any discomfort. I love them so much I have a packet for home and a packet for our diaper bag.

Aura Cacia Eucalyptus Essential Oil – Might I say I was very skeptical of essential oils. However, after testing out the lavender essential oil for my stress and anxiety and it working, I knew I had to try this for J’s cold! It helps, it really helps! Beyond that, though, I read that eucalyptus really helps with colds and in my opinion it truly did!

Bonus – A nice, Snuggly warm blanket – I’m a sucker for blankets, seriously. And I think when you’re a mom you just have this instinct to do whatever you need to to try to make your baby feel better. Well, for some reason, I thought a new, soft, cuddling blanket would make him feel better. It certainly didn’t hurt that the blanket says “loved by mommy” on it!

Okay you guys, I think that about wraps up the essentials for us! I just wanted to share these because this is real life for me. Sometimes I don’t get to write and when I do, my goal is to share my real life with you. Real life is babies being sick. Real life is crying so hard because you don’t want them to feel badly. This is real life and I’m glad I got to share my real life with you today! Do you have any essentials for when your baby has a cold? Share them below! I’d love to hear them for the next time Jacob isn’t feeling good!

Until next time!
